Ah, but here lies the debate. Some say this is the Vine Moon, courtesy of the Romans who introduced grape vines to these lands. Yet others—myself included—feel drawn to the Bramble, which is a native plant. Though my own brambles have passed their peak, the wild essence of the bramble still calls. And let’s be honest, the bramble is a vine in its own rebellious way, winding and claiming space where it pleases. The Pagans often referred to many creeping plants as vines, so perhaps both are true. I feel at home in the duality of it.

In Celtic tradition, this moon is known as Muin, which sounds like “moon” but means “thorn.” Fitting, right? In Gaelic, the blackberry is called dris-muine, the “prickle thorn.” The Celts were enchanted by vines, and we see their presence in their art—twisting, curling forms in tapestries, carvings, and knotwork that symbolize eternity and connection.
